History

Founded in the late 1920's by Gordon Nelson Russell, the early years saw the majority of business in the underground coal mines of the BC Kootenay region. The products and activity that continue with Gordon Russell Ltd today germinated in the growth of the B.C. forest & mining industries in the 1950's thru 70's. Gordon Nelson’s two sons Charles and John were instrumental in guiding the company through this exciting time. Introduction of the Radicon range of speed reducers, manufactured by David Brown in England, and Gallagher Pump provided the company strong growth in these resource sectors.

With industrial growth comes transportation and rail traffic, thus GRL's introduction of the Trackmobile mobile railcar mover in the 1960’s. Trackmobile continues to be important Company business today, responsible for the establishment of an Alberta facility in Red Deer  - with this a Service department c/w repair mechanics, overhaul shop, and service vehicles.

In the late 1970's a relationship began with the Airflex (Fawick) division of Eaton; one that has grown to where today it is key to Company success.

Charles Russells two sons Brian and Graham now own the business and are active in its success. Current initiatives include the range of Bonfiglioli speed reducers and marketing 'across the border' in Washington and Oregon. Respectful of Company tradition and Principals come and gone (Victor, Hunslett, Gallagher, Horton, Brown Boveri), they and the staff at Gordon Russell Ltd look forward to the future and its challenges.
